Onions and cabbage

The days are getting short, the weather’s cooling down, and average first frost is only three days away. It’s still officially summer, but I’m in fall mode now. Green onions and the brassicas, like this open leaf cabbage, are hardy mainstays of the fall harvest.

My local food

The local portion of what we're currently eating on the farm. Produce is grown here, except as noted. Prepared foods contain mainly local ingredients, not necessarily organic.

In the field: arugula, broccoli, beet greens, chives, garlic scapes, herbs (lovage, oregano, parsley, sage, thyme), mesclun, spinach

Cold storage: eggs (on-farm)

Freezer: beef, chicken, tomato sauce, turkey
Meats are purchased, small-farm, more-or-less organic, except for our own chicken.

Dried: hot peppers

Bottled: jams & jellies, honey, hot pepper sauce, maple syrup, mustard, pickled beets, pickles, relish
All purchased or gifts, small kitchen.
