Watching March weather

Overnight snowfall

This year’s end-of-winter weather watch is different. It’s March, and I’m still in town, with an urban view, backyards and curb-sides, instead of…fields, which is just not the same. Still, it’s exciting as usual to feel the sun growing higher and stronger, the days getting longer, and the crazy weather rollercoastering along as has become the usual these last few years. Yesterday, steady rain took out all but the high-piled snow and turned the backyard rink into a shallow pool. Overnight, the snow came back strong. But that final meltdown’s coming, it’s just around the bend!!

  1. The sun is shifting, isn’t it? Spring is right around the corner and then, in Central Texas anyways, the terrible heat. I have to hurry and do as much digging and raised bed building as possible!

  2. All of the snow is gone here in Northeast PA, but we’re getting punished with rain and lots of it.
But I had the opportunity to buy loads of seed packets today on sale! Spring will be here soon and I’ll be up to my elbows in dirt! Can’t wait!

  3. Possible you can draw a map of your farm or give the location so i can googlemap it?
This blog is so great. It inspired me to start growing some of my one veggies. I only have raised beds so far, but dreaming of a small farm or at least a small field so i can grow all my veggies. Norway is an expensive country to live in, the tought of beeing self sufficient or at least a little is a nice dream. With this blog and the books og John Seymour everything is possible.

  4. Hi,

I wanted to email you in regards in any possible advertising opportunities you may have with your website…I would be very interested in working something out with you if you have anything at the moment. I’m looking to earn support for a national cause and get visibility for the “plant 1 billion trees” project which Andrew Liveris and the Nature Conservancy have partnered up on for people to donate $1 to. Let me know if you would be interested at all in supporting this cause.  I look forward to talking to you soon!

  5. This coming spring (well it seems like it’s already here where I am) feels like it’s going to be a particularly good one. I can really feel the life in everything starting to wake up. We should all go outside and wake up with it! Of course, that’s for the warm days :D

  6. We had late March snowfall in New Jersey…after I had just expanded my garden, and was planning on setting out some lettuces and brassicas.  I’m itching to start transplanting, but daytime temps aren’t getting much higer than the low 40’s, and night temps are in the low 20’s.  Of course this is after a week where daytime temps were in the 70’s (one day hit 80) and night time temps in the 50’s.  Where did spring go???
