To the greenhouse

3 Feb 200816 May 2006 by Mike (tfb)

Tomato, eggplant and pepper seedlings heading out from the Milkhouse (seedling room) to the unheated hoophouse for some real sunlight and a taste of the harsher field conditions, before transplant time in a couple of weeks. The small riding mower … Read the rest

Compost tea

26 Feb 200715 May 2006 by Mike (tfb)

Here’s something easy that could come as a kit: a compost tea maker. One 55-gallon barrel, one strong, porous bag (this one’s a woven plastic grain sack) full of compost, some heavy twine, a strong stick, and water. Tie the … Read the rest

2022 right now...

Late June: Fresh veggies have arrived. Lots of different greens are ready to go. Snap peas, green onions and beets starting to size up. LOTS of rain and fairly cool weather for the last couple of weeks. The grass and other plants around the garden perimeter grew so fast, it overwhelmed the electric fence keeping the deer out. And at least one deer took advantage. The grass has been cut, and the deer are once again at bay. Weather-wise, we've moved from rain to humid heat. For the full story, you can start back in January.
