The anti-garden

Field of goldenrod and tall grass

A field of goldenrod and tall grass—what the garden would look like, left to its own devices. I’m headed to the veg plot, a couple hundred feet slightly up and to the left, to turn on the electric fence for the night. Day 4 of the first official heat wave of the season comes to an end. Probably hit around 34°C, not really up with the crazy new highs we’ve been getting in recent years. It was pretty thick, muggy, exhausting because of the oppressive humidity—stayed indoors with a fan from late morning to late afternoon. It was uncomfortable, but here at least, not scary as the scrolling list of warnings and advice on the weather app made it seem. Mixed with equally dire details of a possible severe thunderstorm. Still, I suppose that info is overall useful. We’re being looked out for! The heat is forecast to continue overnight, but as the sun goes down, it’s actually quite cool and relaxing and the mosquitoes aren’t even bad!
